Becoming a Proverbs 31 Woman: Day 1

Good Morning Lovelies!

Today is the first day (and wow, my very first blog post!) of my Bible study/devotions on Proverbs 31:10-31. So, sip on your coffee, open up your Bibles, and flip to Proverbs 31. Let's get started!

May plan for this 21 day study is to just follow through the passage, dissecting one verse at a time. I'll start at the beginning!

"A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies." ~Proverbs 31:10, NIV

Now, I'm not married. But I have every intention of one day being married, as I believe it is God's desire for us to grow old with someone to love, and to love us. I'd consider myself to be in "training" to be a wife, and following God's desire for my heart is ever so important in my young adulthood.

This verse is really not all that difficult to comprehend, in plain English, "A respectable wife is hard to find, because she is worth so very much." In the following verses we'll be told how to become that "wife of noble character," and we'll look at that another day. For now, I want to get the point across to you about just how valuable you are.

When I was just a little girl, ten or twelve, my mom took me on a trip to have that talk. I'll never forget the value of that trip, because she taught me what it meant to have value in myself. In every way she lives her life she shows me how to show my worth, but on this trip she explained it in a way that made it crystal clear.

There are three types of "cups": a Styrofoam cup, a coffee mug, and a China teacup. A Styrofoam cup is easily torn apart, thrown away. Disposable. A coffee mug, though durable, is used everyday. It's been through a lot. You're probably drinking from your favorite coffee mug, the same one you've been using everyday this week. But you've used others, too, haven't you? A China teacup is special. It was passed down from your mom, from her mom; it's been in the family for years. It's reserved for special occasions. It's beautifully crafted. Just like you. "Fearfully and wonderfully made" aren't you?

So today, choose to look at yourself as a China teacup. You are not a Styrofoam cup, you are not something someone uses once and chooses to throw away. You are so much more valuable than an everyday coffee mug. You are beautiful like a China teacup. Treat yourself with respect, and dignity.

Here are some questions you might ask yourself this morning:

1. How valuable do you feel you are? A Styrofoam cup, a coffee mug, or a China teacup? Why?
2. Look at yourself through God's eyes. What value does he see in you that you might be missing?
3. How can you change your actions and behaviors (do you need to?) to reflect your real, true worth?

I would love to hear your responses in the comments below, and have a chat with you ladies this morning. If you would rather, keep your thoughts to yourself and use this time to reflect with God. He loves you!

XO,
Lindsay
